Women’s Livelihoods
The Responsible Jewelry Transformative and the Marange Women’s Alliance develop livelihood projects with women in Zimbabwe’s diamond and gold mining communities. Each project responds to needs identified by the women themselves, creating income, food security and financial inclusion for women and their families.
The Five Coops
Five chicken coops in five Marange villages give women a reliable livelihood raising broiler chickens for schools, mines and local markets. Twenty percent of profits are returned to the women, who use them for formal financial services through a bank, including funeral insurance.
The Sixth Coop: Penhalonga
The next coop will be built in the gold rush area of Penhalonga. It will extend the model developed in Marange, providing women with a reliable source of income in a community affected by the gold rush. A separate fundraiser for the sixth coop will open soon.
